Triangle Group:strengthening business social responsibility promoting economic and social development

尊Distinguished host, ladies and gentlemen,

First, I would like to thank you for giving me such an opportunity to communicate with you, and it is my pleasure to discuss with you on the subject of “ how enterprises should co-implement social responsibility on the supplying chain”.

Along with social development and progress, the concept of protecting environment, sticking to sustainable development and establishing a harmonious society gradually goes into everybody’s mind deeply. The increasingly developed international trade and economical cooperation put forward more higher requirements for the social responsibility of enterprises. As an important symbol of improving image and status of enterprises, social responsibility is of same significance as topping management, advanced technology and leading products, which constitute the key factors of the core capacity of competition and become the key indexes indicating sustainable development of enterprises. This forum organized by China WTO Tribune of Ministry of Commerce and the European Business Social Responsibility Committee has its necessary and significant practical meaning. It will actively promote the global supplying chain for improving its social responsibility. I ‘d like to cover three aspects.

Environmental protection must be taken as duty-bound responsibility during enterprises’ development.

Chinese ancient philosopher proposed the view of “combining nature and human being as one” and stressed harmonious co-existence of nature and human being. Although “human must defeat nature”, we cannot breach natural regulations. We cannot ignore environmental protection, otherwise we will encounter heavy disaster. The shadow brought by several serious chemical contamination accident occurred in human history still cannot be eliminated till now. The painful lesson of those “first contamination and then remediation” during global economic development made human being paid heavy expense.

In 1960’s and 1970’s, the way of “first contamination and then remediation” was also took in some places of China. But at present, Chinese people’s consciousness of environmental protection, especially Chinese enterprises’ consciousness of environmental protection has been greatly improved. It should say that developing countries did best, even better than developed countries in many aspects. In comparison with individuals, enterprises have duty-bound responsibility for environmental protection. This is in compliance with the principle of “ who made contamination who will make remediation”. It is necessary for protecting our common homeland. As for enterprises, pursuing profit is a major target. But it must be conducted on the premise of doing no harm to the environment. I believe that everyone concerns grow-up of the next generation. But if our living environment is destroyed constantly, especially the essential living condition water and air will no longer exist, the most essential goal of human being will not be realized. Maybe we can select to find another living space, but I think that’s unrealistic and not the best way. We prefer protecting our present living space well on the basis of reality than paying huge expenses on human power, materials and finance.
